Dear Families,
The holidays can be a joyful time — but they can also bring added stress for both children and adults. Between disrupted routines, higher expectations, and social events, kids may feel overwhelmed, even if they can’t quite express it. The good news is, with a few simple strategies, we can help them stay grounded and emotionally well.
Here are a few ways to support your child (and yourself) this season:
Keep Routines Where You Can
While some change is unavoidable, try to maintain consistent bedtimes and mealtimes. Predictability helps children feel secure, especially when things get busy.
Name the Feelings
Let your child know it’s okay to feel excited, tired, disappointed, or “off.” You can say, “Lots of feelings come up this time of year — what are you noticing today?”
Simplify When Needed
It’s okay to say no to extra events or screen time if things feel too full. A quiet night at home can be just what your family needs to reset.
Connect Through Small Moments
Even 10–15 minutes of one-on-one time — playing a game, baking together, or taking a walk — can reduce stress and boost connection.
